Finally this is the article and they publish with Thai language. For Thai Language, u can see on this link.

Assalamualaikum Warrahmatullahi Wabarakatuh,

Well, this is just my story about Islam and Muslim Community in Hokkaido especially Sapporo. Living just about two months in Sapporo as Internship student don’t make me satisfy explore about anything in this Island.

Sapporo is the capital city in the North of Japan and has different Island with Tokyo. Even those, Sapporo have a good spatial for their urban city.

Just small Muslim community that I meet in Sapporo, especially for native Japan; I just meet two of them. Both of them convert to Islam and married to foreigners. Others Muslim are from other countries whose living as worker or student in this prefecture. In Sapporo, there’s one mosque that always used for many kinds Islamic activity. This mosque near with Hokkaido University and can be found in this address:

Sapporo Mosque
3-7-2 Nishi, Kita 14jo, Kita-ku, Sapporo-shi,
Postal Code : 001-0014

Almost every week, there some organization gathering from any kinds of student for other countries that has living in Sapporo. In this Mosque there two kinds of routine activity that always do every week, those are:

  1. Quran class for children who want to study about Quran and how to read that, every Saturday after Zuhr time and,
  2. Meeting & discussion about Islam, every Friday after Isya prayer.

There’s no other prayer room that you can found accept this mosque in urban area in Sapporo, so manage your time and find the good place for praying if you living here.

Some of friends taking Zuhr Prayer when have field trip in Shakotan District

In Sapporo, just only one shop to find beverage and foodstuff with halal label, it’s very near with Sapporo Mosque, just about one minute walking from the mosque, the shop name is ‘Warung Jawa’. The owner of the shop is a woman foreigner from Indonesia. She is married with Japan guys whose convert to Islam, the owner name is Widya. Warung Jawa not only functions as shop but have a restaurant inside the shop, where you can eat some halal food there, especially Indonesia menu. The addres of ‘Warung Jawa’ is:

Warung Jawa Halal Food Shop &CAFE Restaurant
Sapporo shi kitaku kita 14 nishi 3 ZEUS building B1.

The others halal food place is on the canteen of Hokkaido University, the canteen placed in central cafeteria, second floor on the left side of food court.

Living in Sapporo for a half month of Ramadhan, it’s so challenge me because on this place the day time more longer than area near equator or tropical countries that I’ve been living before. Subuh time will come around 2 AM in the morning and Maghrib will come around 7.30 PM. So, it’s quite long but with the blessed of Allah, everything of our activities will direct well, InsyaAllah.

Hope my sharing on this article can be use for giving a little information about Muslim community in Hokkaido-Japan, especially in Sapporo city.

Wassamualaikum Warrahmatullahi Wabarakatuh.
